Build Subscribe Flows for your Readers

New subscribers can now follow a custom journey, including multi-step redirects.

Hey everyone! Speaking as someone who has a little insight as to what’s on the horizon, I think March is going to be the best month yet 🫡.

In a continued effort to provide you more flexibility, data, and insights—we’re launching a few new things today…

🔀 Subscribe Flows
📊 Automation Analytics

🔀 Subscribe Flows

Before today, when a new reader subscribed to your newsletter, we would automatically redirect them through a specific flow. For example:

  • If you had a premium newsletter → redirected to the upgrade page

  • If you had active recommendations → redirected to view your recommendations

With the launch of Subscribe Flows you can now customize the journey your new subscribers take, including multi-step redirects.

For example, after someone subscribes to your newsletter you could create the following flow…

  1. Subscribe Survey — built directly in beehiiv with our Survey Forms feature, you can collect additional information about your new subscriber like their first name, occupation, interests, etc.

  2. Recommendations — using our Recommendation Network, new readers can view and subscribe to the other publications you’re recommending. (This massive growth channel is responsible for tens of thousands of new subscribers daily.)

  3. Welcome Page — using our Webpages feature, you can create a custom page on your website to welcome new readers to your publication however you’d like.

You can build your own custom Subscribe Flows by visiting the Advanced Website Settings.

And a few other things worth mentioning…

  • You can also redirect to external websites

  • You can undo the default redirects that currently exist

    • For example, if you don’t want new readers to be shown the upgrade page immediately, you can now remove that as a part of the flow

📊 Automation Analytics

I am a broken record, but—we will continue to pour resources into our automations functionality until it is the most comprehensive automation suite available in email.

We have a long way to go, but today we’re launching a comprehensive (and beautiful) dashboard that allows you to assess the performance of your automation workflows.

Performance over time

Automation completion progress by day

By default, these dashboards will display the aggregate performance of the emails in your workflow, but you can specify:

  • a specific date range or relative time frame

  • a specific email in the workflow

We’ll also be adding new triggers and conditions over the next several weeks to expand our Automations toolkit.

As a refresher, with Automations you can create multi-step email journeys based on different triggers. You can think of a trigger as an action that a subscriber takes—like signing up for your newsletter or upgrading to your premium offering.
