Back when I was at Morning Brew—we found tremendous success growing our newsletter by sponsoring and cross promoting with other tangential newsletters.

Now that our community has grown to thousands of some of the most influential and widely read newsletters around, it's time to tap into those network effects.

With the introduction of Recommendations you can leverage the depth of the beehiiv network to considerably scale your audience for free.

Adding Recommendations

To get started—click Grow in your navbar, then Recommendations. This will take you to the main Recommendations dashboard where you can see both publications you are recommending and publications that are recommending you.

By clicking the Add recommendations button in the top right of the page, an interactive modal will popup that'll allow you to add a new recommendation one of two ways:

1. Copy and pasting a publication's URL — if you know the publication's direct URL you can simply drop it in here and we'll add it as a recommendation

2. Search and filtering publications on beehiiv — using our advanced search functionality you can search by name or #topic

You can also see which publications are actively recommending you, and reciprocate by adding them as a recommendation with a single click.

How it works

If you have active recommendations, new subscribers will be redirected to view those after they subscribe.

If you have a premium offering, new subscribers will of course be redirected to upgrade first, and then will be shown your active recommendations.

Tracking Performance

While in your recommendations dashboard, you'll be able to see all publications who are actively (and have previously) recommended your publication at any time, along with how many subscribers they sent your way.

We also have a special attribution for subscribers who signed up to your publication via recommendations. The acquisition source will show:

recommendation: website_of_referrer / referralrecommendation: blog.beehiiv.com / referral

This also makes it simple to track the performance and quality of these subscribers relative to your other acquisition sources, using our 3D Analytics feature and reports.
