Let’s start with the basics…
You’ve probably used ChatGPT or Claude to answer a question or perform a task. Out of the box, both models know a ton and can search the web to find answers.
But what if you wanted Claude to read your emails? Or create a calendar invite on your behalf? To do that, Claude needs access to the tools where that information lives.
That's where an MCP comes in.
MCP is an open standard that lets AI tools connect directly to software like Gmail and Google Calendar, so you can get real work done just by chatting with Claude.
In that example:
Reading your emails → Gmail (read access)
Creating calendar invites → Google Calendar (write access)
Now swap Gmail and Google Calendar for beehiiv, and consider everything you can accomplish with Claude connected to your publication.
We shipped read access first, and it quickly became part of my daily workflow. Now, I wake up to a Slack message every morning with a full breakdown of my new subscribers from the day before. It took about three minutes to set up:

Here's what my newsletter workflow looks like now:
I finish a rough draft and drop it into Claude for feedback.
Claude proofreads it, tightens the copy, and suggests improvements.
When I'm happy with the final version, I simply ask Claude to create the post for me in beehiiv using the exact template I always use.
Want to change the design? Just describe what you want. Claude can make style changes, update layouts, and even create entirely new templates for you. And don't worry about AI accidentally emailing your entire list. The MCP can create and edit content, but you're always in control of publishing.
It can also handle the tedious work you don’t feel like doing: adding content tags, generating alt text for images, updating metadata, and more.
Write access isn't limited to just posts. Here are a few prompts you can steal to put it to work across the beehiiv ecosystem:

“Create three new templates styled to my brand, based on my best-performing posts.”
