Gift Subscriptions

Gift Subscriptions are a powerful tool to help you reach new audiences, and the holiday season is the perfect time to let your readers know they can now share your paid newsletter as a gift 🎁.

With Gift Subscriptions your readers (or anyone really) can purchase a subscription to your paid newsletter and send it to family and friends.

To enable this, simply toggle the Gift setting in your Advanced Options when creating and editing your Paid Tier.

Visitors who land on your upgrade page will now see one of two purchase options:

• Individual: A personal subscription

• Gift: A subscription to gift to someone else

When a gift is purchased, the recipient will receive an email notification and can start enjoying all the perks of the paid subscription as soon as they accept. Before the pre-paid gift expires, they’ll also receive reminders to take over the billing themselves.

All this functionality is seamlessly integrated with beehiiv's robust analytics, making it easy to track gift redemptions, subscriber growth, and revenue.

Across the broader email marketing landscape, bots are becoming more sophisticated, making it even more challenging to measure true engagement. Additionally, privacy and security tools used by mailbox providers, corporations, and educational institutions often contribute to inflated data, prioritizing user protection over accurate reporting.

Most email platforms simply report the raw feed of data — legitimate or otherwise (including those almost certainly from bots and security software). To ensure full transparency, we also provide these raw and unfiltered metrics so you can see the complete picture:

• Total Clicks: All recorded clicks, including potential bot interactions

• Unique Clicks: The number of individual recipients who clicked, regardless of frequency

• Click-Through Rate (CTR): The percentage of recipients who clicked on any link

How we’re addressing this…

To combat the challenge of inflated metrics, we’ve developed sophisticated data models to confidently identify and exclude non-human clicks. As a result, we’re introducing additional metrics for more accurate reporting:

• Verified Total Clicks: Clicks verified as genuine, filtered for accuracy

• Verified Unique Clicks: Individual verified recipients who clicked

• Verified Click-Through Rate: The percentage of recipients verified as genuinely engaging

Our goal is to provide complete transparency by sharing both unfiltered raw data and cleaned, verified metrics. This approach allows you to interpret the data in a way that best aligns with your business objectives, ensuring you have the insights you need to make informed decisions.
