beehiiv Goes Global with Internationalization
Launch your newsletter in Spanish, German, Italian and others.
Happy Wednesday, or should I say—¡felíz miércoles!
Today we are launching international support for several additional languages, plus more features to help you scale your newsletter and better understand your audience.
🌎 Internationalization
🧑🏿💻 Subscriber email clicks
📊 Export Survey Form responses
👤 Auto-login users from email
🪦 Email Blasts → Emailing a Segment
Vamos…
🌎 Internationalization
Upon popular demand, we are launching support for the following languages:
🇪🇸 Spanish
🇩🇪 German
🇮🇹 Italian
And plan to launch support for the following languages in the next few weeks:
🇫🇷 French
🇵🇹 Portuguese
If you want to help us launch these faster and are fluent in both English and either French or Portuguese, hit that reply button and let us know.
You can find this setting in your Publication Settings under Default Language.
How this works
By default we provide auto-generated text in certain places for your readers (information about unsubscribing, text on upgrade pages, double opt-in confirmation emails, etc.).
To date, that text has been entirely in English, even if your content is written in a different language
By changing the language in your settings, all of the auto-generated text will now be translated into the language of your choice
This provides a consistent experience for your audience and causes less confusion for those who have readers less proficient in English
🧑🏿💻 Subscriber email clicks
When viewing the performance of a newsletter post, we have always provided a detailed table of all accumulated clicks, broken down by web / email and total / unique.
You can now click on the View Details arrow on the far right side of any row in that table, and it’ll show you each individual subscriber who clicked on that specific link, along with a timestamp.
This subscriber-level data is also exportable via CSV by clicking the download icon next to the results in the header.
📊 Export Survey Form responses
Upon popular request, we have made Survey Form responses exportable via CSV so you can perform additional analysis on your subscriber’s responses + sync with downstream tools.
As a reminder—Survey Forms allow you to seamlessly collect data on your readers and utilize it. Whether you’re collecting their name after signing up or including a Survey Form in an email to learn more about their interests, there are plenty of use cases to explore. Read the full product release here.
Note: Survey Forms are only available on paid plans. To learn about our paid plans and/or upgrade, visit here.
👤 Auto-login users from email
To significantly enhance the experience of your readers, they will now be automatically logged into your publication’s website when redirected directly from your emails.
Examples of this include when they…
click Read Online in your email header
click on a link to a complete a Survey Form
submit a response to a Poll
This reduces the friction of requiring them to login separately, and allows them to navigate your site as an authenticated user.
🪦 Email Blasts → Emailing a Segment
Due to confusion around the purpose of Email Blasts, we are moving where this feature lives in the app and renaming it very literally Emailing a Segment.
This now lives within Segmentation in the app, and you can see the action in the top right corner.
And to clarify…
Posts
Are meant to be public and sent to everyone on your list. The most common action is to send both a newsletter via email + publish a web version simultaneously. There are a few nuances:
You can choose to publish email-only or web-only (as opposed to both simultaneously)
You can choose to send to only premium subscribers (i.e. paying) or only free subscribers (as opposed to both simultaneously)
But in general, the purpose of a post is to distribute content to your entire audience.
Emailing a Segment
Is very literally sending an email to an individual segment of your readers.
Using our Segmentation feature—you can create segments of subscribers made up of those who share a set of attributes, actions, engagement, etc.
Examples of possible segments:
subscribers who signed up in the past week
subscribers who have opened 80%+ of your emails
subscribers who have a “@beehiiv.com” email address
Emailing a Segment allows you to send special offers or more generally just distribute content that may not be relevant for your entire list.
Note: Emailing a Segment is only available to users on our Scale plan. To learn about our Scale plan and/or upgrade, visit here.
