Introducing: Segments

Insights about your audience like never before...

Happy Wednesday! We hinted yesterday on Twitter that we're going to drop something bigĀ to celebrate 2,000 followers...and we hope we delivered šŸ’ŖšŸ½

Segmentation (beta)

Your newsletter is growing and people seemingly love what you're doing. But you want to double-click on that and really understand who is engaging with your content, how many subscribers are engaging, and more. For example:

  • How many subscribers came from Twitter last month?

    • Are they more engaged than subscribers who came from LinkedIn?

  • How many people have opened 100% of my newsletters?

  • Are these TikTok ads working?

  • How many total people have opened a newsletter in the past 30 days?

With Segments you can answer all of these questions and more. We've built an incredibly powerful segmentation engine where you can drill down several layers deep to derive the insights you want, and then analyze the aggregate level data on these segments.

There are two types of segments you can create:

Static ā€” which aggregates subscribers at the time of creation and does NOT updateDynamic ā€” which updates frequently as additional subscribers meet the requirements and are added or existing subscribers no longer meet the requirements and are removed

To access Segmentation, just visit the Audience tab in your navbar and click on Segmentation.

Note: this feature is currently in beta. Meaning it's possible to experience some bugs, and that additional filters and functionality are still on the way! Read more below to learn how to contribute to the beta.

Example Segments

To provide you a bit more context about how this can be used, we've included 3 simple example segments below to show the feature in action.

Active Subscribers

If you just wanted a quick snapshot of subscribers who have opened or clicked at least once you could create a simple segment like this:

Which will result in something like this:

Subscribers from TikTok Ads

If you just wanted a quick snapshot of subscribers who signed up from TikTok Ads:

Which will result in something like this:

Inactive non-premium subscribers who signed up 14-30 days ago

And perhaps you wanted to get a bit more granular and review non-premium subscribers who signed up between 14 and 30 days ago, but haven't opened or clicked on anything.

Which resulted in something like this:

Beta

A very important disclaimer is that this feature is still very much in beta. So before you ask, a few things we plan to launch in the coming weeks but are not currently available:

  • the ability to perform bulk actions (like unsubscribe)

  • sending campaigns to individual segments

And because this feature is new and in beta, we'd really appreciate any sort of feedback you can provide.

If you discover any bugs, or have suggestions for additional filters you'd like to see...we are planning to drastically expand the capabilities of this feature over the next few weeks. Click the button below to submit feedback or report bugs.

If you have any additional feedback about anything, please hit reply and let us know. All of these improvements featured above came from user feedback.

And be sure to follow us here on Twitter for real-time product updates and announcements.
