Collaborative Editing is Here

Because working together is more fun...

Closed my eyes and forgot I wasn’t writing in a Google Doc just now, because the whole squad’s in here helping out with this one.

I’m super excited to announce the launch of real-time collaborative editing.

beehiiv is the first and only content platform where you can write and build beautiful newsletters together with your team. We’re investing in creating a world class editing experience, and we’re just getting started…

✍🏽 Collaborative editing

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past decade, you’ve probably used Google Docs and have taken advantage of being able to write and work in a document at the same time as others. That was never possible when creating newsletters, until now…

Every user and team on beehiiv can now create posts with the power of collaborative editing. What this means for you:

  • More efficient processes and optimized team collaboration

  • You never have to worry about overwriting others again

Note: only the new editor supports collaborative editing, it’s only available for posts, and the post settings in the right sidenav are NOT a part of the collaborative editing experience.

🧑🏿‍💻 Recommended Reading

A common rule of thumb when it comes to optimizing your web traffic: always give your readers something else to click on. Your goal is to have them continue to explore as much of your website and content as possible.

So we launched a simple Recommended Reading feature that will semi-randomly pull in recent posts, prioritizing those with content most similar to the current post being displayed.

You can toggle this on in your Advanced Website settings here.

⚙️ Automation trigger conditions

Our automation feature currently supports three event-based triggers: Signed Up, Upgraded, and Manual. But not all signups and upgrades are the same…

So today we’re launching trigger conditions—allowing you to drill down and specify additional parameters required to enter a segment. Only subscribers who match these criteria will be enrolled into the automation.

For example: if you hosted a webinar and collected email signups, you may want to create a bespoke welcome series specifically for those who attended.

  1. Create a new automation in beehiiv

  2. Set the trigger to Signed Up

  3. Add condition where utm_source = webinar

  4. Ensure all attendees are sent to beehiiv with the proper attribution (i.e. utm_source = webinar)

  5. All attendees will be automatically enrolled into the welcome series specifically catered to them

The following attributes are able to be used for conditions:

  • email

  • utm_source

  • utm_medium

  • utm_campaign

  • utm_channel

  • referring URL

  • subscription tier (free / premium)

Note: Automations are only available on our Scale plan. To learn more about our paid plans and/or upgrade, visit here.

📧 Additional email events

Shown on individual subscriber page

In a continued effort to provide as much relevant and useful data to our users, we now surface several additional email events including: bounces, blocks, spam complaints, and deferrals.

To learn more about what all of these events mean, click here.

Coming soon: the ability to build segments based off of these email events.

Spam reports are also now shown on the post analytics page.

📅 Advanced post filters

Now that many of you have an expansive archive of posts, we decided to make it easier than ever to sort and filter your existing posts.

On your posts page you can now filter by:

  • post date

  • content tags

  • platform (web / email / both)

  • audience (free / premium / both)

This is all in addition to our existing search functionality.
